Turkey Bacon Club with Coleslaw

The most satisfying combination of roasted turkey, crispy bacon, smoked cheddar, pickles and peppadew peppers, tomato and greens, avocado, and honey mustard sandwiched between slices of airy, crusty sourdough. This is the turkey club to end all turkey clubs. It packs in all the flavor you could ask for in a sandwich–smokey and salty, meaty and crispy, tangy and sweet, creamy and crunchy, fresh and bright, chewy and crusty–and the result is so satisfying. It’s also easily packable for a wholesome, filling lunch at work or a picnic on the beach. Just prepare to be very bored by the standard turkey sandwich after this.

Go ahead and get on this Southern buttermilk coleslaw. I promise you’ll want a batch ready for barbecues, picnics, and everyday lunches. It’s wonderful on its own or piled onto sandwiches and burgers for a bite of crunch, creaminess, and tang.

To build the turkey club, start with slices of fresh-baked crusty bread (like sourdough or a seedy grain loaf, homemade or from the bakery), then stack up:

  • honey mustard or Carolina gold BBQ sauce (I love Hak’s smoked maple mustard BBQ sauce)
  • thinly sliced roasted turkey (look for no nitrates; freshly sliced from the deli tastes the best)
  • crispy torn bacon (fully cooked turkey or chicken bacon is a convenient option; toast in the toaster oven or in a skillet until crispy)
  • aged or smoked white cheddar, sliced
  • pickled red onion
  • bread & butter pickle
  • peppadew pepper
  • sliced tomato
  • greens
  • The BEST Southern buttermilk coleslaw
  • smashed avocado
  • everything bagel seasoning or this incredible Hawaiian rub

Pair it with some fresh fruit and your crunchy side of choice. Pictured is Catalina Crunch cheddar snack mix, which I highly recommend.

Turkey Bacon Club with Coleslaw

Ingredients

  • 2 slices fresh-baked crusty bread (like sourdough or seeded whole grain)
  • 1.5 - 2 tsp honey mustard or Carolina gold BBQ sauce (I love Hak's smoked maple mustard BBQ sauce)
  • 1.5 - 2 oz thinly sliced roasted turkey (look for no nitrates; freshly sliced from the deli tastes the best)
  • 1 slice bacon, cooked until crispy, torn (fully cooked turkey or chicken bacon is a convenient option; toast in the toaster oven or in a skillet until crispy)
  • 1/2 - 1 oz aged or smoked white cheddar, sliced
  • 4-8 slices pickled red onion
  • 1-2 slices pickle, roughly chopped (I prefer bread & butter pickles)
  • 1-2 peppadew peppers, sliced
  • sliced tomato
  • greens
  • 2-4 Tbsp buttermilk coleslaw
  • 1/2 - 1 oz ripe avocado, smashed
  • sprinkle everything bagel seasoning or this Hawaiian rub
  • sprinkle Aleppo pepper flakes, to taste

Instructions

  1. Spread honey mustard/golden BBQ sauce on one slice of bread. Stack the turkey, torn bacon, sliced cheese, pickled onion, pickle, peppadew, sliced tomato, coleslaw, and greens.
  2. On the top slice of bread, smash the avocado and sprinkle with seasoning and pepper flakes, to taste. Place the top slice face-down to make a sandwich. Slice and enjoy!
